 Sharon
Pederson will be giving a 1-day workshopSensational Sashiko
This is a non-traditional approach to a traditional needle art
form. Sharon’s theory is that if it can be done by hand, it can be done
by machine and sashiko is no exception. Originating as the "common"
man's garment decoration, sashiko has been adopted by quilters to add
exciting designs to their quilt tops and garments. Using your sewing
machine and heavy weight threads learn how to achieve this stunning
embellishment on either a single thickness of fabric or through a quilt
"sandwich".

Pederson will be giving a 1-day workshop Double Wedding Ring by Machine
Sharon always wanted to make a double wedding ring quilt but was
not the least bit interested in sewing a convex curve to a concave one.
It was only when she realized it could be done with machine appliqué
that she tried it. Now she teaches Double Wedding Ring as a
beginner technique - it's that easy. To make the process easier she has
made templates so that all of the cutting can be done with a rotary
cutter. Make it any size you want - with either pieced arcs or plain. | Monday Sept 13, 2010 9 am - 4 pm

Two-at-a-Time Reversible Quilts

This is Sharon’s most popular class. It is the subject of her
first two books, Reversible Quilts-Two at a Time, and More Reversible
Quilts, both published by Martingale & Company (That Patchwork
Place).
As you piece the blocks they are miraculously quilted at
the same time. And, when you are finished, you have TWO quilts - a
different color on each side.
The class covers the construction
of the basic block, how to join blocks together and reversible binding.
Demonstrations of some of the variations are also included. In this
hands on class, you will learn everything you need to know to finish
your quilt and will get a good start on it in class. Sewing machine
(and walking foot) required. | Gloria Loughman is returning to give 2 workshops. If
you missed her the first time, you may still have a chance.
Workshops are filling fast so if you are interested, contact Barb
Minton right way. Offered workshops are:
| Thurs - Sat Oct 7-9, 2010 9 am - 4 pm
| Gloria will give a 3 day workshop
Landscape Mosaics
Using
small squares or diamonds of fabric, students will build up a landscape
design that is both original and visually exciting.
Design
principles including perspective and focal point will be discussed.
Invisible machine appliqué, free motion stitching and other machine
embroidery techniques will be included. Students will have the option
of hand painting fabric for special areas.
This workshop is suitable for new and experienced quilters. | Sun - Mon Oct 10-11, 2010 9 am - 4 pm
| Gloria will give a 2-day workshop
Playing on the Surface
Participants will create an abstract design while improving their machine embroidery and appliqué skills.
The
class begins with a segment on design principles and advice on how to
choose stunning and effective color combinations. Breaking up the
background into many smaller segments, students move on to decorate the
surface of each one with a myriad of shapes, providing extra detail
with machine embroidery. Towards the end of the class, instruction is
given 'easy to master' construction techniques and quilting designs
will be discussed.
Based on the skills used to create 'Kimberley Mystique' the wall hangings produced in this workshop will definitely be 'one of a kind' | Jan Krentz is coming for 3 days in June 2011. Specific workshops haven't been decided yet. More details coming later.
