2012 Raffle Quilt

The mission of Tri-City Quilters’ Guild is to promote the art of quilting.  To this end we provide educational meetings, classes and workshops.  The Guild also provides community service quilts to many local charities such as Habitat for Humanity, Safe Harbor Crisis Nursery, LaClinica, local nursing homes and the Tri-City Cancer Center.  Proceeds from this quilt will be used to fulfill our mission.
TCQG 2012  QUILT SHOW
HALF- SQUARE TRIANGLE  POTHOLDER CHALLENGE!

Guild members are challenged to make two matching pairs (four total) of potholders.  Those meeting the following criteria will receive a $5 coupon good for use at the 2012 Quilt Show Silent Auction.

Potholder Criteria . . .

1.    Must be made of 16 two-inch squares, at least half of which must be half-square triangles.

2.    Insul-BrightŪ  must be used as batting (available at the guild meetings through February).

3.    It must be quilted in some manner and bound.

4.    Each pair must match.

Half-square triangles have almost limitless combinations.  Here are some samples which can be copied or can inspire you to do something different.

Half-square Triangles

A maximum of three $5 coupons can be “earned.”  Only TCQG members may “earn” coupons, and the coupons may not be transferred to another person.

Sewing half-square triangles to get a two-inch block requires a bit of math.  One method to get a number of blocks quickly is to use a printed form (Thangles is an example).  You may also download and print the form that’s at http://www.blockcentral.com/hst/hst-2inch.pdf.  Printed forms may also be available at the meetings.

Potholders should be turned not later than the March guild meeting.  To get your coupon, pin your two pairs of potholders together and attach a slip of paper with your name.  If you have questions about these directions, take your best stab at them.  The more potholders, the better.  Of course, other potholders are welcome.

Revenue from potholder sales will be used for some activity or benefit for TCQG members.

Jean Keaveny (PM meetings) and Karen Windhausen (AM meetings) will be collecting potholders and giving out coupons.
